Shared Ski Adventures (SSA) is an ADAPTIVE Learn to Ski Program that helps people with disabilities become independent skiers. Using a variety of adaptive methods, SSA has provided support to over 800 children and adults since the program began in 1983.
Volunteer skiers meet at Swain at the beginning of each annual 8 week session for training on safety, teaching methods and the use of adaptive equipment. Typically 1 or 2 volunteer instructors are paired with each student to provide individualized attention and support.
The number of volunteers that we have directly affects the number of students we can serve in a program. During the 2009 ski season, 25 students were served by over 50 volunteers. We are always looking to expand our program!
Leslie Schiff shared her beautiful photographs to promote this wonderful program! Thank you, Leslie!
