CP Rochester’s team of Board-certified, licensed occupational therapists facilitate the maximum level of individual independence through the assessment and therapeutic treatment of physical/motor skills, cognitive skills, visual skills, and the ability to perform activities of daily living. Therapy is individualized, based on an individual’s evaluation, and can focus on: relaxation of muscle tone (through modalities such as heat, massage, paraffin baths, vibration, etc.) rehabilitation of upper extremity (through evidence-based strategies, electrical stimulation, etc.) increasing upper extremity range of motion, motor coordination, and strength increasing perceptual/cognitive and academic skills preventing/improving contractures through orthotics and splinting increasing independent living skills, or ADLs, though the use of adaptive equipment, compensatory strategies, or re-education with the use of the clinic’s adapted kitchen and bathroom The occupational therapists also perform assessments and develop appropriate home perform assessments and develop appropriate home programs for sensory dysfunction. Our site-based Respite Home provides children an opportunity for recreation and socialization with other children in a comfortable home setting, while receiving support from caring and highly-trained staff. We consult with the family to customize care for each individual guest. Respite services allow families and caregivers an opportunity to take a break or address other responsibilities for a few hours up to several days as needed. Community Habilitation A person-centered, outcome-driven service provided in the home and community, which provides support and assistance to individuals to increase independence. Various goals are chosen and implemented by the individual with staff support, including shopping for and preparing meals, budgeting, and completing household chores. Please note that we also provide collegiate supports when appropriate for individuals pursuing higher education. These supports include attending class with the individual, taking notes, and organizational/time management skills. Hourly Respite Services Our Respite programs are designed to assist and provide relief to families and caregivers members who are responsible for the primary care and support of individuals with developmental disabilities. There are 3 different types of non-certified respite services: In Home Respite, Recreation Respite, and Wrap Around Respite. In-Home Respite provided in the individual’s home for approximately 2-6 hours per week. Trained, trusted staff comes to the home to meet the needs of the individual and engage the individual in preferred activities. Caregivers have the opportunity to meet staff before starting service. Site-Based / Recreation Respite provides opportunities for individuals with disabilities to develop lifetime recreation skills and interests. What makes CP Rochester unique is that most of our programs and events take place in the community. We offer opportunities for individual and group interaction and programs incorporating instruction and skill development such as individual swimming lessons, fitness, and social opportunities. Wrap Around Respite The Wraparound Respite Program (for individuals 12+) runs Monday – Friday from 2:30 PM – 5:30 PM at CP Rochester’s Winton Road location. The evaluation team includes licensed Psychologists/and or Physicians with experience with evaluating children who may be on the Autism Spectrum. Early Childhood Educational Services CP Rochester offers a full day integrated preschool program designed specifically for children with Autism using a behavioral approach to meet the unique needs of children on the Autism Spectrum. Preschool to School-Age Transition services are provided by the Autism Coordinator ensuring that the transition into primary school is as seamless as possible by working closely with the family, child and school district. Children and Adult Community Based Services Clinical Therapy services including speech, occupational and physical therapy services to assist individuals and their families in locating and accessing supports and services they need to reach their fullest potential. Follows consumer activity and behavioral guidelines as set by the team and desired outcome guidelines. These may include but not be limited to Residential Habilitation Plans and IPOPs. Ensures consumer care meets or exceeds established standards in areas including personal hygiene, grooming, feeding, care and respect for consumer belongings, room cleaning, and other daily living skills. Completes documentation as required by and in coordination with regulations and agency policies and procedures. Adheres to the agency’s policies and procedures as well as department guidelines. Performs other duties at the discretion of the Program Director or his/her designee. Physical Requirements include: sitting, standing, walking, lifting over 50 pounds, pulling and pushing wheelchairs and adaptive equipment, carrying, grasping, reaching, stooping and crouching, crawling, color determination, visual acuity, speaking clearly, listening to spoken communication, sense of taste and smell.
